One of the advantages of selling online is having the freedom to choose whether to sell on one or more marketplaces. For some who are new to reselling, one marketplace is enough. But for those who want to maximize their chances of selling and increasing their income, selling on multiple sites is better.

Many online platforms cater to various categories like electronics, art and collectibles, home essentials, and sporting goods, as well as fashion. While there are some marketplaces where you can list your fashion items from allbrands, there is one platform where you can only sell luxury fashion items such as clothing, shoes, watches, accessories, and bags from high-end brands. This site is where you can find iconic fashion pieces from Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, and other popular exclusive luxury brands in the market -- Vestiaire Collective.

What is Vestiaire Collective?

Vestiaire Collective is a marketplace where sellers and buyers from across the globe share their passion for fashion. Founded in Paris, France, in 2009, this e-commerce has grown exponentially. It now operates in 78 countries, including the United States and Canada, boasting over 5 million luxury fashion pieces from over 6,000 brands. Its offices are located worldwide, specifically in Tourcoing, New York, London, Berlin, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Seoul.

Vestiaireaims to make the fashion industry more sustainable by reducing fashion waste. Instead of throwing away items in good condition and adding to the growing problem of the environment, Vestiaire Collective encourages and promotes reselling them to other style-seekers who share the same interest in desirable pre-loved fashion.

Vestiaire Collective is a popular avenue for luxury items. Famous brands known to be admired by well-off people and celebrities are sold here in pristine condition at a more affordable price. Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Gucci, and Yves Saint Laurent products are some of the most in-demand items you can sell here. If you have iconic pieces from popular high-end brands, this can be your best choice for listing them.

How to sell with Vestiaire

Selling on Vestiaire is simple and takes just a few minutes. After creating an account, you can proceed with listing your item. Below are the steps:

  1. Click on Sell an Item if you're on the web, or Sell if you are using the app.
  2. Choose the category, brand, size, and material for the item you want to list. Ensure that you follow the prompts and provide all the necessary information.
  3. Decide on your item price. Price suggestions are available based on similar items
  4. Provide the best photos that show your item. You can add up to 10 photos.
  5. Finish your listing by writing a detailed item description. Don't forget to mention any flaws.

Note: Once your listing is complete, Vestiaire Collective needs to evaluate your listing before it goes live in their marketplace. This process usually takes 24 to 48 hours, and a notification will be sent to you once your listing is online.

Selling Fees

Listing on this platform is free, but Vestiaire Collective gets a certain amount off the final sale price once your item sells. Below are the fees you can expect to be deducted from your earnings after a sale:

U.S-based sellers:

  • 12% - This applies to all items priced between $100 and $16,500.
  • $12 - This fixed amount applies to all items below $100.
  • $2,000 - This applies to all items above $16,500.

Canada-based sellers:

  • 12% - This applies to items priced between CAD 150 and 25,000.
  • CAD 18 - This selling fee applies to items priced below CAD 150.
  • CAD 3,000 - This applies to all items priced above CAD 25,000.

These selling fees allow sellers to enjoy the following:

  • A global community consisting of 23 million fashion enthusiasts
  • Prepaid shipping labels
  • Helpful pricing and selling tools
  • Accessible customer support

Note: If you are selling outside the US and Canada, you may check the selling fees here if you use alternative currencies.

Items and Categories

Almost all marketplaces share similar categories when it comes to the items that you can list. This goes the same with Vestiaire Collective, but high-end and inclusive. Since this platform caters to luxury fashion pieces, here's a rundown of the categories and types of items you can list.

  • Women - The women's category includes bags, watches & jewelry, clothing, shoes, and accessories.
  • Men - In the men's category, items such as clothing, watches & jewelry, bags & accessories, and shoes are what you can list.
  • Children - Under the children category, you can sell babywear, clothing for boys and girls, shoes for kids, and bags and accessories.
  • Vintage - For vintage pieces, 15 years or older are considered 'vintage' by Vestiaire Collective. This can be bags, clothing, shoes, jewelry, watches, and accessories for men, women, or kids.
  • Watches and Jewelry - This category for men and women includes iconic pieces from brands like Breitling, Burberry, Cartier, Chanel, Gucci, Hermès, Hublot, Longines, Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors, Omega, Rolex, Tag Heuer, Yves Saint Laurent, Céline, Christian Dior, Fendi, Givenchy, Kate Spade, Tiffany & Co, and Van Cleef & Arpels.
  • Bags - For bags, you can list almost all types of bags. From handbags to travel bags, you can list them under this category. Bag models such as Birkin 40, Constance, Dionysus, Jackie Vintage, Marmont, Neverfull, Pochette Accessoire, Saddle, Speedy, Timeless/Classique, Veneta, and Wallet on Chain are iconic items in this category.

You will also find a We Love category. This is where buyers can easily look through all items under the designer brands such as Balenciaga, Cartier, Céline, Chanel, Dior, Fendi, Ganni, Gucci, Hermès, Jacquemus, Loewe, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Saint Laurent.

Product Conditions

At Vestiaire Collective, like other marketplaces, they believe in the sustainability of fashion pieces and how important it is to exert effort in reducing fashion waste. Thus, products listed on their platform come in a variety of conditions, such as:

  • Never worn, with tag

Translating to brand new items, a never-worn item with tag has never been used by the owner, and the hang tags from the original purchase are still present.

  • Never worn

This item condition also translates to new items that are never-worn and have no defects or alterations made, but without the tag.

  • Very good condition

Like most marketplaces, an item with a status of being in a very good condition means it is used but extremely well maintained. Items that belong in this category may show minimal signs of usage.

  • Good condition

This category means an item is second-hand, worn, and well maintained. Items in good condition may or may not have defects but are not as well-preserved as those in very good condition.

  • Fair condition

Items under the fair condition category are second-hand, which have been worn frequently and have visible defects.

Note: When listing products under the categories of second-hand condition, it is important to note them on the description and show any visible signs of use or defects if present in the photos.

Shipping

Note that shipping your sold items on Vestiaire Collective is free if you are based in the 48 countries listed here, including the US and Canada. After downloading the shipping label and preparing your item for shipping, you must ship the order within seven days. Or else, the order will be canceled, and Vestiaire Collective will refund your buyer.

There are two ways you can ship your items depending on your buyer's preference:

  • Direct Shipping

Direct shipping is an automatic shipping option for sellers, and you cannot opt-out of this service. This means you are responsible for shipping the item straight to your buyer instead of sending it first to Vestiaire Collective for authentication.

If you are a US seller using Direct Shipping in the US, FedEx is the delivery service you can use, and you must drop off your sold item at any FedEx drop-off point near you.

Don't be confused if you see USPS on the shipping label. Although they are separate entities, Vestiaire Collective is working with these carriers, and the only thing you just need to keep in mind is to drop off your package at FedEx drop-off points.

At this time, Direct Shipping is only available if you are within the same country as your buyer. This applies to Europe, including the UK, The United States, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

Note: Only items priced below $1000, CAD 1500, €1000, or the equivalent in alternative currencies are eligible for Direct Shipping.

  • Shipping with Authentication

If the buyer purchased your item with authentication, you have to ship your item to the Vestiaire Collective hub near you. This will enable the Quality Control team to check your item for legitimacy first. The buyer pays an extra fee for this service. After your item is checked, the platform will be the one to send it to the buyer.

How are sellers paid?

If your item was purchased with authentication or is express delivery, the platform will issue the payment to you as soon as possible or in the next working day after they have shipped out your item to the buyer. For orders under Direct Shipping, the payment will be issued to you 72 hours after the delivery of your item if there are no disputes from the buyer.

If you added a bank account to receive your payment, the amount would reflect within five working days. But if you opt to receive your payment via PayPal, it will only take 24 hours.

Make Reselling Easy with Automation

Venturing into an online business comes with a lot of things to do. And while there are helpful marketplace features to help sellers list efficiently, you can't overlook the fact that making profits doesn't end at listing your items. There are other things to do, such as shipping, reaching more potential buyers, sending offers to help you increase sales and many more.

Things can be manageable if you're a beginner in reselling and just listing on one marketplace. But with a growing business like seasoned resellers, listing on multiple marketplaces is the way to go. You probably think that it is impossible to do – that managing everything at once is tiring and can be time-consuming. Well, in reality, that can be true only if you do everything by yourself, manually. You see, many successful sellers are able to do it with the help of automation.

Automation apps like OneShop enable sellers to do more with less, saving them time and effort. If you are also selling on Poshmark, Mercari, Depop, and eBay, OneShop can help you crosslist easily on these platforms. All you have to do is draft once and post them on the supported sites effortlessly. It is the easiest way to list your items with its straightforward listing features that let you streamline your work. It has auto-fills, Photo Stash (where you can take square photos, edit, remove background, and store them in the app whenever you need them), and title and description character counts. This guides you if you need to add more information to ensure your listing is more visible across the marketplace. You can also schedule when you want your drafted listing to go live.

But that is not all - OneShop wants to ensure you have all the assistance you need. Hence, it also helps you manage the shipping of your sold items. With OneShop, you can access all the orders from your linked marketplace accounts, print their labels, and schedule USPS pick-ups. Running out of shipping supplies? Don't worry! You can also order them right in the app.

Of course, let's not forget how important it is to track your sales and see your progress as a seller. OneShop knows that seeing how your business is doing is crucial in building your goals and future planning. Thus you can easily check a unified sales graph and see your seller performance.
